What I am finding absolutely riveting about this book is that John Venn and his companions achieved so much, partly because they could buy land, build buildings establish charities and serve food without concerns for bureaucracy and state intervention.  Maybe it’s because the needs were greater 150 years ago, or because Trust was a real commodity, or because they really were pioneering and visionary, I don’t know.  Inspiring nonetheless.
